  • Design Layer reference the masterfile into the current file onto it’s own layer (such as MASTER)
  • Turn this viewport to black and white only.
  • Create a viewport in your sheet layer, but when you choose which layers are visible select the third option which looks like a grayed out eye for the masterfile.
  • DO NOT set this viewport to black and white
  • Draw all your fire ratings and all other notes in the viewport annotations.
  • Select the line type and weight from the “fire rating legend” on the sheet.
  • When you go to print there is an option in the middle that says “Gray level for grayed layers and classes __%” – Make that 29%.

To place a location map on sheet G001begin by creating a pdf of your location from mapquest. (Per Jeremy VectorWorks always prefers pdfs over other file types). You can check 3.0 photos in your job file for an existing location map as one is usually needed for the project plan.

Once you have a pdf of your location go to:

File – import – import pdf

Locate & select your location map pdf in the “import pdf” window, choose “open”

In new “import pdf” window make sure you adjust the range if needed. Generally “pages from 1 to 1 should be checked, choose “import”.

Stretch your location map to fit in the location map box on G001.

Note: if you use a jpeg of the lacation map the size can not be stretched to fit the box permanently.

To make it so that when you enter a group, symbol, or viewport you don’t leave the window you’re working in and can still view the background, go to Tools> VectorWorks Preferences. Choose the Display tab and check the “Show other objects while in groups” box and click OK.

  • Each design layer shall have a scale not equal to 1:1 (1/8”=1’0” most common).
    • For masterfiles, use the scale of A101.
    • For details, sections, wall sections, and elevations, use the scale that you want the viewport to be on the sheet.
    • Room tags, window tags, and door tags shall be inserted on the masterfile. As in AutoCAD, duplicates may need to be inserted on enlarged plans and the originals may need to be turned invisible.
