Annoying Dashed Lines @ Loci

Just a reminder that we still have a blog.  Also, I found that a lot of people have been having some annoying dashed lines appear on their drawings.  Although they don’t print and can’t be selected, they can cluster up and get in the way pretty easily.  Just go to Tools –> Options –> Vectorworks Preferences.  Under the “EDIT” tab, UN-check the “Snap to Loci” box.

Top/Plan View

When using Vectorworks, one should always make sure to be in Top/Plan View Mode (not just top).  If you notice that things are not able to be selected or snapped to, check to make sure that’s your view.

To use the Viewports without Leaving the Drawing Window

To make it so that when you enter a group, symbol, or viewport you don’t leave the window you’re working in and can still view the background, go to Tools> VectorWorks Preferences. Choose the Display tab and check the “Show other objects while in groups” box and click OK.

Creating a Default Hatch

Once you have a hatch looking how you want it and it’s been approved by the team to be used as the Default, you have to export it to the Y:002 CAD Standards\VectorWorks Defaults\Libraries\Defaults\Attributes – Hatches\Exported Attributes – Hatches.vwx drawing to show up in the hatch pulldown.

To do this, open the Resource Browser (Ctrl+R), find the hatch you’d like to export, select it, right click and select Export… Next click the Browse button in the lower left of the new window that opens and go to Y:002 CAD Standards\VectorWorks Defaults\Libraries\Defaults\Attributes – Hatches\Exported Attributes – Hatches.vwx. Click OK and you’re set.

New favorites for Resource Browser

Bring up Resource Browser (Ctrl R).  Click on the top arrow on the right side and go down to “Add New Favorites Files”.  You should link all your favorites to the 0002 CAD Standards/VectorWorks Defaults.  Add any of the VectorWorks files, but make sure you include all the files in the Symbol Library folder (These are our standards)
