Annoying Dashed Lines @ Loci

September 17, 2008

Just a reminder that we still have a blog.  Also, I found that a lot of people have been having some annoying dashed lines appear on their drawings.  Although they don’t print and can’t be selected, they can cluster up and get in the way pretty easily.  Just go to Tools –> Options –> Vectorworks PreferencesUnder the “EDIT” tab, UN-check the “Snap to Loci” box.

peace…

1)  In resource browser hit the home key

2)  Scroll down to the ”Drawing Border Components” folder

3) Double click to open file

4) Highlight titleblock to be edited

5) Right click & click edit

6) Check “2D Component” and click edit

7) Edit titleblock and then click “Exit Symbol”

8) On sheet layer double click on titleblock

9) Hit ok in “Edit Titleblock” box

10) The titleblock should now be updated

Any questions please ask!!!!

When placing a YWA titleblock on a new sheet layer our address may not show up.

1) Double click on the “Classes” tab in the “Navagation” toolbar

2) Scroll down and click on the “Class Name” Titleblock

3) Click the ”Edit key”

4) Change fill style to “None”

This will fix the problem!!

After bringing the title block into a new sheet the YWA address may not show up!!  In the “Navagation Palette” double click on the “Classes” tab, scroll down to the “Titleblock” class and change fill from solid to none and the address should show up!!!

Top/Plan View

June 11, 2008

When using Vectorworks, one should always make sure to be in Top/Plan View Mode (not just top).  If you notice that things are not able to be selected or snapped to, check to make sure that’s your view.

Yo, it’s the incredible Paulk and I’m here to say, A rectangular marquee ain’t the only way…Baaaaaaaamm!

In the 2D Reshape tool, If you want to select points using a lasso, just hold the alt key down and draw around the points you wish to relocate.

  • Design Layer reference the masterfile into the current file onto it’s own layer (such as MASTER)
  • Turn this viewport to black and white only.
  • Create a viewport in your sheet layer, but when you choose which layers are visible select the third option which looks like a grayed out eye for the masterfile.
  • DO NOT set this viewport to black and white
  • Draw all your fire ratings and all other notes in the viewport annotations.
  • Select the line type and weight from the “fire rating legend” on the sheet.
  • When you go to print there is an option in the middle that says “Gray level for grayed layers and classes __%” – Make that 29%.

To place a location map on sheet G001begin by creating a pdf of your location from mapquest. (Per Jeremy VectorWorks always prefers pdfs over other file types). You can check 3.0 photos in your job file for an existing location map as one is usually needed for the project plan.

Once you have a pdf of your location go to:

File – import – import pdf

Locate & select your location map pdf in the “import pdf” window, choose “open”

In new “import pdf” window make sure you adjust the range if needed. Generally “pages from 1 to 1 should be checked, choose “import”.

Stretch your location map to fit in the location map box on G001.

Note: if you use a jpeg of the lacation map the size can not be stretched to fit the box permanently.

Tracing a PDF

May 16, 2008

If you bring a PDF into VectorWorks to trace over and the file is working very slow you can try this to make it work more quickly.

-open the pdf (outside of VW)

-save as a JPEG

-Import the file by going to:

-File

-Import

-Import image file

-then find your file
